Dinner Party Games is built to be played around a table with no accounts and as little data as possible. Here's exactly what that means.
The short version
- No accounts, no passwords, no email required.
- We never sell your data or run ad-tracking.
- We collect the minimum needed to run the games.
- Game data auto-deletes itself after a short while.
What we store
- A guest ID.A random ID kept in your browser to recognise you inside a room. It isn't linked to your real identity, and it lives in your browser's local storage.
- Your display name and avatar.Whatever you type and pick. Everyone else in your room can see it — that's the point.
- Game data. The rooms you create or join and the moves you make, stored on our server so everyone's screens stay in sync.
Cookies
We set one small signed cookie per room so nobody else can take your seat in a game. That's it — no advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking.
Analytics
We use PostHog to count things like how many people start a game, so we know what to improve. We're deliberately light-touch about it: room codes are stripped out of any URLs we record, we don't record your screen, and we don't auto-capture your clicks or typing.
Error tracking
When something breaks, we send technical details about the error (what failed, and basics like your browser type) to Sentry so we can fix it. This is for diagnosing crashes, not for tracking you.
Push notifications
Only if you opt in. If you turn on “it's your turn” nudges, your browser gives us a subscription token we store to send them. You can switch this off any time in your browser or device settings.
Your IP address
We briefly process your IP address to rate-limit requests and stop spam and abuse. It's used to protect the service, not to identify you.
How long we keep it
- Rooms still waiting in the lobby are deleted after about a day.
- Finished games are deleted after about 30 days.
- Games left abandoned mid-play are cleared after a couple of days.
- Anything in your browser's local storage (your guest ID, name and avatar) stays until you clear it — see below.
Who else touches your data
We don't sell it. We do rely on a few service providers to run the app, and they process data on our behalf:
- Supabase — database and realtime sync.
- Vercel — hosting.
- Upstash — rate limiting.
- PostHog — analytics.
- Sentry — error tracking.
Children
Dinner Party Games isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you think a child has given us their data, email us and we'll delete it.
Your choices
Because there's no account, you're in control: clearing your browser's site data for Dinner Party Games removes your guest ID, name and avatar from this device. To ask anything about the data tied to a room, email us at barney.gray11@gmail.com.
Changes
If we change what we collect, we'll update this page and the “last updated” date at the top.
